School History

B.C. Elmore Elementary School in Houston, Texas, has a deep-rooted history dating back to 1957, when it opened as a high school for Black students in the Settegast community. Named after educator Bennie Carl Elmore, it later became a middle school in 1972 and was eventually rebuilt and reopened as an elementary school in 2013, now serving grades PK–5.

Timeline:

1957: B.C. Elmore High School opens in the Settegast neighborhood, serving the black community.

1972: With the opening of Forestbrook High School, B.C. Elmore is converted to a middle school.

1999: The original building is demolished and replaced with a new middle school structure.

2013: The new campus is repurposed as B.C. Elmore Elementary School.
